We Survived Snow Storm '04

Jan 7th Pictures

Power was restored at approximately 6 PM. The problem was down power lines on 240th St. SW. The day was broken up into 9 operations.

Operation 1

Make arrangements for firewood. I ran out last week. My buddy Dennis hooked us up with two wheel barrow loads of doug fir. Completed 2000 hours, Tuesday.

Operation 2

Rekindle fire to provide the only source of heat. We have an oil fired furnace that requires power for the pump, ignition and fan. Completed by 0445 hours

Operation 3

Split more firewood. Recover the recycle container that had fallen over due to the heavy ice. Completed 0900 hours

Operation 4

Use camp stove to prepare sausage and egg breakfast burritos. Completed by 1145 hours.

Operation 5

Build the cold storage unit on the back deck to keep the dairy and other highly perrishable items cold. Completed by 1300 hours.

Operation 6

Split more wood and bring it into the garage from the outside storage. Completed by 1400 hours.

Operation 7

Sift through the Times for people selling firewood. The guy in Mt. Vernon flaked out on me. I haven't found anyone selling for less than $190 a cord. My neighbor Michael may have a lead for a load at $150 a cord. If so I will get at least a half cord from that delivery. Completed 1430 hours.

Operation 8

Pickup Tiffany and Malia and bring them to our house where there was heat and cooking options. They didn't have power or wood. This operation was cancelled at approximately 1500 hours when their power was restored.

Operation 9

Take propane tank for gas grill to be filled. It was filled at Woodway Texaco in Edmonds. We also saw my friend Safou Hamoui at the Seattle Mediterranian Market. Completed by 1700 hours.

Operation 10

Prepare a meal of salad, grilled chicken, spaghetti and bread. I cooked the chicken on the gas grill. The pasta was cooked on a big post and propane burner. The bread was heated in the oven since the power was back on midway through dinner prep. Completed by 1900 hours.

Un-numbered operations consisted of feeding, changing and entertaining Khalila. She did very well during the outage. Before bed Khalila put on her Mickey Mouse outfit that Aunt Shari gave her.
